Hot dipped steel galvanizing is a factory controlled metallurgical bonding of zinc to steel. It provides excellent corrosion resistance affording both barrier and cathodic protection.
Hot Dip Galvanization Specifications
Galvanizing Standards:
American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) A53 Pipe, Steel, Black and Hot Dipped Zinc Coated & Seamless A123 Zinc (Hot-Dipped Galvanized) Coating on Iron & Steel Products A384 Safeguarding against Warpage and Distortion During Hot-Dip Galvanizing of Steel Assemblies.
Galvanizing Thickness:
The thickness of the galvanized coating shall conform with paragraph 6.1 of ASTM A123.
Galvanized Surface Finish:
The galvanized coating is continuous, adherent, smooth and evenly distributed. The integrity of coating is determined by visual inspection, coating thickness measurements and adhesion testing.
Hot Dip Touch Up and Repair:
Areas damaged by welding, flame cutting, or during handling, transport or erection shall be repaired by one of the following methods.
- Cold galvanizing compound
- Zinc Rich Solder
- Metallizing
- Surfaces to be reconditioned with zinc metal spray shall be clean, dry, and free of oil, grease and corrosive products.
